Stormwater Management

Applicability & Plan Review Information

All construction projects that disturb at least 1 acre, or more, are required by Georgia law to comply with the appropriate NPDES Construction Stormwater General Permit. These permits require:

1.    Submission of a Notice of Intent (NOI) through the Georgia EPD Online System (GEOS) for Permitting, Compliance and Facility Information.

2.    Preparation of erosion, sedimentation and pollution control plans by a Level II Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) certified Professional Engineer (PE)

3.    Plan Review by the Local Issuing Authority (LIA)

4.    Execution of the plans throughout the construction process and site inspections by the LIA

5.    Submission of a Notice of Termination (NOT) through the Georgia EPD Online System (GEOS) for Permitting, Compliance and Facility Information

In addition, all construction projects that are located within the city limits and/or the urbanized area determined by the US Census Bureau, and create or replace 5,000 square feet or more of impervious area, are required by Georgia Law to comply with the NPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit for small municipalities. This permit requires:

1.    Plan review using the appropriate Stormwater Plan Review Checklist 

2.    If post-construction stormwater management is required, the appropriate Stormwater Maintenance Agreement, a maintenance access easement, and, once construction is complete, an as-built drawing will be required, and the structure will be inspected at least once every 5 years
